About Us

Have you ever wondered about where jeans came from? Maybe why they were developed in the first place? Perhaps you’re more about the fashion sense behind jeans and why or how they’ve been worn over the years.

Jeans have been around for over a hundred years, and as many will agree, we appreciate their versatility, variety, and functionality, too.

On The Jeans Site, you can tell we just love jeans – all kinds of jeans.

The Companies

So there are so many companies out there that manufacture jeans these days, but there are some companies that have been around since the beginning or have been especially present in pioneering where jeans came from and where they are going.

Companies like Levi, Carhartt, and Wrangler are just a few of the more well-known brands that have established themselves as leaders in the jeans industry.

All of the Fabrics

Denim fabric was and still is made of cotton. Different blends have created a variety of textures and fabric variations that you’ll find. Before it becomes anything you’re used to seeing, it starts out as raw denim made in a particular way.

Denim on its own is a twill fabric that is widely considered rugged and durable. The weave denim used is specific to the fabric in that there is a diagonal pattern. The orientation of the fibers causes it to be durable and also drape well on people of all sizes and shapes.

Jeans have come a long way since the basic denim that Levi’s came out back in 1873. Now, you have options like stretch denim that include other fibers like spandex and Lycra. These synthetics give the fabric an extra amount of stretch that is often flattering to the wearer.

Another fabric combination is the selvedge denim. This denim is finished with a different color band, while crushed denim is made to look crushed. Poly denim is a denim that has been blended with polyester fibers to create an ultra-soft touch and feel.

The Styles of Denim

The styles of denim have evolved over the years. Many can remember the bellbottoms worn by the likes of the Bee Gees. Acid washed jeans made their own impact when everyone wanted to be a material girl. Then it was the so-called “mom” jeans with the high waist.

Later styles included the boot cut jean that never really went away entirely, even though skinny jeans tend to rule the jean world most recently.

These are only a few of the different styles that are more well-known. There are plenty of others that haven’t been in the spotlight like the loose fit or the trendy jogger style jeans.

It’s a Denim World

With so much variety in denim, here at The Jeans Site, we want to be a beacon of light to you. We want to help you understand the types of jeans that are out there, so you don’t end up with a fabric blend or look that you didn’t really want in the first place.
